about

On Mass Ejection, Carpet Floor’s third CD, core band members Garry Davis (Custom Floor) on guitar and Matt Crane (BNSF, Custom Floor) on drums find themselves back in a duo setting similar to that on their first CD, Majestic. In a nutshell, Mass Ejection is, for the most part, a very subdued, atmospheric album spiked by several menacing, deafening clouds. The steel rod and steel spring guitars that were played so unadorned and raw on Majestic are delayed and distorted on two of Mass Ejection’s tracks to trance-inducing effect. Other lengthy, meditative, improvised soundscapes effortlessly morph into incredibly heavy, pounding fuzz rock and gigantic arcs of roaring feedback. Mass Ejection, indeed!

released August 1, 2007

This is spontaneous music. None of it was practiced in advance. All of the songs were played live with no overdubs added later, except the bass and synthesizer on track 1 only. The keys of the synth were taped down for the drone on track 9. Recorded on December 21-22, 2004 at Cumberland in Orange, California by Garry Davis. Thanks to Mark Waters. Mastered by Pete Lyman at Infrasonic in Los Angeles, California. In lieu of slammed volume levels, the full dynamic range of this music was preserved. All music ©2004, 2007 Carpet Floor.

about

Carpet Floor California

Carpet Floor is Garry Davis and Matt Crane. Formed in 1996, the duo plays spontaneous music--completely made up on the spot and never practiced in advance. Garry plays guitar and Matt plays drums. Sometimes, they both also play other random objects. The sound ranges from heavy psychedelic rock to abstract improvisation with plenty of free jazz-influenced drumming and fuzz guitar destruction. ... more
